Vice President of Samsung India Asim Warsi said in a recent interview that the world's biggest smartphone maker company's main objective is to present the best device to the user and not just to be the number 1 company. And to meet this target, the company has recently launched Galaxy M-series and Galaxy A-series keeping in mind the mid-range market.

The newest member of the Galaxy M-series is the Galaxy M40, which can primarily be called a better upgrade of the M30. In this device, you get to see Snapdragon chipset and OneUI for the first time (in M-series). So will this device compete with the most popular Note 7 Pro in this segment? Let's know in the review of Galaxy M40:

Samsung Galaxy M40 review: design and build

Nearly all phones in the mid-range segment are available with a fairly bright gradient back, and among them, Samsung has launched the Galaxy M40 with a good color option Sea Water Green and Midnight Blue. And personally speaking, Sea Water Green looks quite attractive.

The back of the device has a glass-finish plastic body, which Samsung offers under the name "Glastic" design as also given in the Galaxy A50. The M40 gives you a very premium look and feel.

The front has an Infinity-O display, in which O means punch-hole. Samsung has given a 91% screen-to-body ratio on the phone which makes the phone comfortable to use.

Looking back, the triple camera setup appears in the vertical direction, which is slightly raised from the body. The raised part seems quite vulnerable to scratches on the glass as no protective case is given in the box.

Speaking of scratch, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection has been given on the display, which may not be called the best but it is better if nothing happens. On the phone, you get screen audio casting technology instead of the earpiece.

The Galaxy M40 is Samsung's first smartphone with no 3.5mm audio jack, which has become a common step in today's modern trend.

Samsung M40 review: display

For the first time, Samsung has introduced the Infiniti-O display for less than Rs 20,000. The Galaxy M40 has a 6.3-inch FHD + resolution display.

Instead of the AMOLED display on the Galaxy M30, you get a slightly more economical TFT panel in the M40, which does not match the darker black color of the OLED display. Apart from this, the company has also not given the option of color adjustment, due to which you get a little blue/cool display profile. The color preset is still the only feature of the AMOLED display.

Despite not having an AMOLED panel, the M40's display offers good color show as well as brightness up to 480nits and we like the color calibration given by default.

In OneUI, you also get dark mode and high-contrast theme with which the display gives you the best experience.

Samsung M40 Review: Hardware & Software

If you talk about the hardware of Galaxy M40, then in this you get to see specifications similar to Galaxy A70. In the Galaxy M40, you have been given Snapdragon 675 chipset, which before this we have also seen in the Galaxy A70 and Vivo V15 Pro, which cost a little more. Samsung has left no shortage in terms of memory as well and there is also 128GB storage with 6GB of RAM, which you can expand to 512GB with a hybrid card slot.

For the biometric unlock system, Samsung has given you a rear-side fingerprint sensor here, apart from this, the phone also has a face-unlock feature.

The 3,500mAh battery looks satisfactory as a specification, but the last verdict on backup can be given only after using it for a few more days. Samsung has also given you a 15W fast charger in the box.

Talking about the software, this latest device from Samsung has given Android Pie based OneUI software. Although one-two features of OneUI have been trimmed, it still proves to be a device with a much higher feature according to this price. In the M40, you get a WideLine L1 certificate which simply means that you will be able to enjoy HD streaming easily. Dolby Atmos' support is also provided in the audio.

In terms of hardware and software, Samsung has tried to provide almost everything to the user here, which seemed to be still missing in the Galaxy M-series.

Samsung Galaxy M40 review: camera performance

Even once you get a glimpse of the Galaxy A70 here. The M40 has a 32MP primary rear camera sensor at the back. Along with the primary sensor, a 5MP depth sensor in portrait mode (live focus) and an 8MP ultra-wide sensor have been provided.

Apart from the rear camera, a 16MP front sensor is provided for selfie and video calling on the front side.

However, no matter how many megapixels are in the phone, if the image quality is not good, then there is no benefit. Galaxy M40 has given you a triple camera sensor that is capable of a good performance with its price.

In general, clicked photos get a lot of balance and social media-ready. However, performance is slightly weaker than other phones found in this segment. In live focus (portrait mode), the sensor blurs the background by detecting the edge of the object quite well.

Beauty mode is turned on by default in the selfie camera, which gives smooth smoother details, due to which the image taken without beauty mode looks quite good.

Samsung Galaxy M40 Review: Biometrics & Battery

For biometric, Samsung has again used the rear-side physical fingerprint sensor which is quite fast and accurate. Along with this, Face Unlock has also been provided here.

The 3,500mAh battery is less visible here than the Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M30, as well as it gives a little less backup compared to the Redmi Note 7 Pro and Galaxy A50, but still gets a one-day battery backup using normal. Battery consumption is slightly faster with gaming and video streaming. A 15W charger is available in the box, which has a normal charging speed which makes the device fully charged in 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Samsung Galaxy M40 Review: Conclusion

In the Galaxy M40, you get better specifications and looks, removing the shortcomings of the M-series phones that have been introduced so far. This time Samsung has used the tiered-and-tested Snapdragon 675 chipset, dropping the Exynos chipset, prioritizing performance.

The Snapdragon 675 chipset may not be the best chipset available at this price, but it is so important to ensure that gaming and high-end users do not face any problem in Samsung's device.

Samsung has also given a good combination of RAM and storage here, but a slight reduction has also been made on-screen technology. More RAM proves helpful for prolonged use of the device. Apart from this, the design software and brand value give different positive points to the device. Samsung Galaxy M40 has been introduced at a very good price of 19,999, which is a good move.
