Vivo V15 Pro review: design and build

Like its previous partner Vivo V11 Pro, Vivo V15 Pro has a very attractive design keeping in mind the latest trends. There is no notch on the front and the selfie camera is introduced with a pop-up setup. The proximity sensor and light sensor are given below the screen. The display without interruption gives you a different and better experience.

A fairly thin bezel is seen around the display, under which the screen-to-body ratio achieved by Vivo is up to 91%. With this, a slightly taped glass finish makes the back phone comfortable to hold. The AI triple camera setup at the back appears quite raised on the back panel, but the protective case provided with the phone protects it from all kinds of shakes and scratches in daily use.

The back panel is offered with a lighter texture in addition to the gradient finish. We are using the Vivo V15 Pro's Blue Color Variant, which we don't find too bright which also gives the device a slightly premium look. The red color variant of the device also looks quite attractive with its stunning finish and texture pattern.

Along with the features, we will also tell that Vivo V15 Pro is made of plastic material, which has a micro USB port, which we like a little because the type-C port can be easily expected at this price.

Vivo V15 Pro review: face unlock and in-display fingerprint sensor

Unlocking the phone here is a fairly quick and accurate experience. The in-display fingerprint sensor can be used quite easily and it works just as well as the OnePlus 6T. If this does not work, you can delete your fingerprint data and resubmit.

This device also supports face-unlock with the addition of a pop-up camera. You can use both fingerprint sensors and face-unlock simultaneously, which makes it even more accurate and faster.

Vivo V15 Pro review: display

Vivo has used an AMOLED display with high-contrast and Vivid color here. Unlike the IPS LCD display, it also has features like color temperature adjustment and Always-on display. Both these features prove to be very useful, which makes the display of this device much better.

Apart from this, there is also a good quality plastic screen protector which is available with a Smudge Resistant Oleophobic coating.

The display is given here without any notch or cut-out which looks quite attractive. The notch is a very important component in the latest trend, but without it, the display of the device looks quite good. But the software still does not make full use of the status bar, just after 2 to 3 application icons you see dots instead of seeing more icons.

Vivo V15 Pro Review: Performance and software

Vivo V15 Pro is the first smartphone introduced with Snapdragon 675 mobile chipset. The Snapdragon 675 is an 11nm process-based chipset with 2 high-end Cortex A76 based Kryo 460 cores and 6 Cortex A55 based Kryo 460 silver cores. In addition to the improvements that have been given in comparison to other Snapdragon 600-series chipsets, there is also a powerful ISP and an extra camera connect.

We know that at this price you can also buy 800-series Snapdragon chipset, but the performance achieved by using Vivo V15 Pro cannot be said to be less than the flagship-grade performance in any sense.

In V15 Pro, you have the option of 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. Along with this, you are also given a dedicated card slot.

You get the device running on Android 9.0 Pie-based FunTouch OS. This is our least favorite custom skin but it is also true that there are quite attractive custom features also. Always-on display, navigation gestures and style, attractive features such as Paytm payment, dual application, and motorbike mode further enhance the experience of the device.

The surprising thing is that in Vivo V15 Pro, you still have Widevine DRM L3 certification, then you will not be able to do HD streaming from Amazon Prime and Netflix.

Vivo V15 Pro Review: Camera Performance

In Vivo V15 Pro, at the rear, you have 3 front sensors and front camera in a pop-up setup. In the phone, you have used the Samsung GM1 and GD1 sensors in the rear primary camera and pop-up selfie camera respectively, 48MP and 32MP sensors have been used. Both these sensors are mainly capable of giving the best output at 12MP and 8MP resolution respectively.

Apart from this sensor, you also have a wide-angle sensor and a depth sensor on the rear side. New features such as night mode have also been included in the camera software for which you have to hold your phone for a while without moving it. Like Huawei or Pixel phones, AI has also used here in night mode.

Camera

The Vivo V15 Pro offers very attractive image output with better details in good light and good dynamic range.

Through wide-angle mode, you can also capture good images in a good light. The camera sensor also focuses here very fast.

In the camera application, you are also given features like Pro Mode, AR Sticker, Portrait Lighting, and Live Image. Beauty mode is also given here but it depends on your personal preference.

Overall we are very happy with the camera performance of Vivo V15 Pro.

Vivo V15 Pro Review: Battery and Connectivity

The Vivo V15 Pro also gives you a large 3700mAh battery, which, with its power-efficient hardware and software, is fully capable of giving you one day of backup with ease. But while playing PUBG, we saw little battery consumption.

Dual engine fast charging has been given on the phone which charges the battery very fast. The device is fully charged in about 90 minutes.

Vivo V15 Pro includes 4G VoLTE and dual-band Wi-Fi as a connectivity option. We also have no problem with call quality.

The audio output achieved by the speaker and headphones is quite good. Vivo has also given you good quality earphones in the box.

Vivo V15 Pro Review: Conclusion

Vivo V15 Pro is a very attractive and great smartphone introduced by Vivo, in which the new and better features are seen keeping the price in mind. With the phone, you get an attractive design, a great display, and a much better camera setup for your price, AMOLED display, longer battery backup, and precise in-display fingerprint sensor.

But the FunTouch UI still sees some room for improvement. The common micro USB port can also be called a drawback here. Along with this, not being able to do HD streaming from Netflix and Prime videos is a little surprising for the price.

The merits
  • Great display
  • Nice design
  • Strong performance
  • battery backup
  • Camera exposure
Demerits
  • No USB Type-C
  • No HD streaming support
  • UI needs improvement
