Nikon D780 is Nikon's latest  full-frame DSLR camera. Nikon has developed it as an upgrade / replacement of its very successful and popular fullframe budget DSLR D750. In designing this latest full-frame DSLR, Nikon has taken care to incorporate the features of its already existing models. In this way, Nikon has built this full-frame mirrorless Z6, full-frame DSLR D850 and D750.

The body is almost identical to its predecessor, the D750, and the resolution is the same, ie 24 megapixes. Some of the features of the buttons and ergonomics and the robustness of the body are taken from the D850.

Like every DSLR, it also has a separate charger to charge the camera's battery, as well as in-camera USB charging facility. With this, you can also charge its battery during your travels without taking a charger. Battery life is very powerful - 2260 shots in a full charge!

But, the biggest feature that truly makes it an upgrade to the D750 is its new superior image sensor which makes it a leading DSLR in terms of superb 4K video and live-view still shooting with smooth continuous autofocus. It is Nikon's first DSLR equipped with 4K video shooting capability.

Using an image sensor that features the mirrorless Z6 in the D780, Nikon has made its camera video and live-view shooting more convenient for auto-focus. Therefore, shooting video with this camera is easier than any other Nikon DSLR.

Thus, in this camera, you get the super fast autofocus capability of DSLR and excellent video and mirrorless live video shooting features of mirrorless in one body. In this way, the Nikon D780 can be considered a hybrid camera equipped with the features of Fullframe DSLR and Fullframe Mirrorless.

This camera allows continuous shooting of 7 frames per second (7fps) in viewfinder mode. Its live view mode features a silent shooting in which this camera shoots flawlessly without shutter noise. In this mode you can shoot at a maximum speed of 12 frames per second (12fps).

Its silent shooting mode can be very useful for public occasions such as weddings, conferences, conference halls etc. and candid photography. Nikon has used its latest Expeed-6 image processor in this camera. The image processor that Nikon has used so far in its other latest cameras (D5, D500, D850 etc.) was Expeed-5. So in the case of image processors, this is a new step for Nikon.

This camera is an upgrade to the D750, how?

  • 24.5 megapixel updated image sensor
  • Expeed-6 image processor (two generations ahead of D750's Expeed-4)
  • Great video and live-view shooting
  • More fast shutter-speed - 1 / 8000sec-15minute
  • Focus Stacking
  • Additional feature of in-camera USB charging
  • Eye detection auto-focus
  • Excellent battery life of 2260 shots in a full charge
  • Phase-Detection Live View AF (Nikon's First DSLR)
  • Buttons and ergonomics (handling facility)
  • 4K video (3840 × 2160)
  • Touch Screen

Nikon D780 Review: Things that can disappoint you

Lack of built-in flash:Due to its absence, you are forced to carry an external flash everywhere. Whereas, a built-in flash is sufficient and convenient for the purpose of a normal fill-flash.

As much as the D750 megapixels: this camera with 24.5 megapixels gives you only the image quality of resolution as high as the D750. So, it may disappoint many in terms of upgrade.

A slight upgrade from the D750 in terms of high-speed shooting (fps): the D780's high-speed shooting capacity of 12fps is only available during silent shooting in live-view mode, while shooting in viewfinder mode for action and wildlife. it happens. So for action shooting and wildlife, this camera does not get any significant edge over its predecessor D750. (Yes, but in view finder mode, you can get fast shooting of 7fps, which is only slightly higher than the 6.5 on the D750!)

Extremely high price: Compared to the current price of D750 (less than 1 lakh), it has been priced very high (almost two times).

Nikon D780 for whom?

  • If its high price does not matter, then this camera can be useful for those who-Still prefer shooting stills in live view mode
  • Want to shoot great videos with DSLR quality with smooth auto focus and 4K resolution
